South Africa Itinerary 3

 

Day 1: Cape Town. Greeting and assistance upon arrival and transfer to the luxurious 5* Cape Grace Hotel at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

Day 2: Cape Town. After breakfast, your guide will take you on a half day tour of Cape Town and Table Mountain. Afternoon at your leisure.

Day 3: Cape Town. Today you’ll head to the country’s principal wine regions of Constantia, Paarl, Stellenbosch and Franschoek. First stop in Paarl for a wine tasting and cellar tour at one of the local estates. From Paarl, it’s onto Franschoek, near the Drakenstein Mountains founded in 1688 by French immigrants fleeing the Huguenot religious persecution in Europe. Stop for lunch in one of the many fine restaurants that line the street of this village and then on to another tasting at a nearby estate. On to Stellenbosch, the second oldest town in the country’s wine region for your final wine tasting before returning to Cape Town. Evening at your leisure.

Day 4: Cape Town. Your private guide will be waiting for you after breakfast to begin a full day of touring. Head to Cape Point at the south western tip of the Cape Peninsula and enjoy some of the most spectacular views in the world. On arrival in Hout Bay, a small fishing village, you’ll jump on board for a short sail across the bay to Duiker Island to view the Cape Fur Seals which inhabit the island. Travel onto the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve which is home to a variety of wildlife including baboons, Eland, tortoises and birds. Enjoy a delicious lunch before continuing your tour along the coastline of False Bay, travel past Simon’s Town Naval base and stop for a visit to the famous Kirstenbosch National Gardens for a short walking tour before returning to Cape Town. Evening at leisure.

Day 5/6: Rovos Rail two day journey. This morning transfer to the Cape Town Station for your Rovos Rail departure to Pretoria. Guests may freshen up in their suites before joining other guests in the observation carriage at the rear of the train. Stop at Matjiesfontein. Passengers have one hour to stroll through this quaint little village. Stop in Kimberley. Disembark and if time permits, proceed by coach/minivan for lunch at the Kimberley Club, then for a tour of the city, the “Big Hole”, the Mine Museum, and a ride through the city in a historic tram. You will also visit the Diamond Museum, an intensely interesting and carefully constructed display of historical memorabilia housed next to the “Big Hole”, the largest manmade excavation in the world. Day 7: Pretoria. Arrive Rovos Rail Station, Pretoria at 12:00. Greeting upon arrival and transfer to the Court Classique Hotel. Enjoy a lovely lunch and set out for an afternoon tour of Pretoria.

Day 8: Transfer to Johannesburg Airport for the Federal Air Charter flight to Madikwe.

Day 9/10: Two full days on safari in Madikwe with all meals and game activities

Day 11: Your final game drive this morning followed by brunch and transfer to the airstrip for your short flight back to Johannesburg to connect with your international flight.
